Web Scraping
Web Scraping
Web Scraping is a set of tools and techniques used to capture data from a web site. The tools can simulate user interactions and can automatically store the resulting display. Often times Web Scraping is used for illegal or illicit purposes. We do not advocate the use of Web Scraping for anything unsavory, or anything that would infringe on anyone else’s copyright. There are many legitimate uses for Web Scraping, and we can provide services and/or the tools to assist customers with those legitimate pursuits.
Our services can allow a customer to extract content via an automated search and parse the information for storage in a database. When you extract data from the web you need to have the data formatted appropriately to be of later use. When you extract content it might be to transit data from a parent site to a sub site, or even could be used as an automated way to feed affiliate sites. The key to Web Scraping is to parse the HTML and make the extracted content usable.
Sometimes Web Scraping is referred to as a Web Harvest, although it is still just an extract of data from the web.
We have developers that have specialized skills in Web Scraping and know exactly how to parse the HTML and how to run a Web Harvest program. We typically do not sell the developers as part of a fixed price project, but rather we sell their services by the hour or by the month. the project specifics are entirely at the discretion of the customer (see disclaimer).
There are many legal issues and ethical considerations for Web Scraping and we encourage all of our customers to stay within both the legal and ethical boundaries.
Disclaimer: While we do advocate using Web Scraping only for legitimate purposes, we cannot be held accountable for anything our customers may do with the tools we provide them. We do not have any control over their use of technology and cannot be in a position to monitor them.
